When you work on a file saved in Dropbox at the office, your home computer updates automatically. You do not need to copy it to a USB drive or email it to yourself to continue working at home. Drew Houston's Dropbox idea arose because he kept leaving his USB drive at home when he needed it. Moreover, viruses and malware could infect his personal computer when he used USB drives to store data. He therefore created a program for his own use.
