Once boys become hooked on video games, they have only two choices: ask their parents for money to support their entertainment needs, or take part-time jobs and spend all their meager wages on the hobby.
Temper Thompson is a teenager who enjoys online games like many other children, but he is determined not to ask his parents for money and has no interest in spending hours frying potatoes in fast-food restaurants. As soon as he entered grade 8, Temper tried online marketing, initially aiming for 100 USD per month.
At 17, with Kindle products being sold online, Tompson earns an enviable 30.000 USD/month, far more than many people's entire annual income. Speaking to Business Insider, the teenager revealed how to build a successful brand and earn a 6-figure income before turning 18:
1. Act Today
The first step on the road to success is to take a step. “We can spend hours talking about how much we want success, but in reality, how many of us dare to act?” Temper said. “If you refuse to act, you will never succeed.”
We are surrounded by people who only talk like that, and we do the same. The key point is that an idea, even a wonderful one, is worthless unless we begin turning it into reality. That is the journey that costs us time, effort, sweat, and tears.
Temper realized this as soon as he entered grade 8, while many adults still remain very uncertain.
2. Do not fear failure
The 2nd lesson is perseverance.
No one matures without difficulties; mistakes are a natural part of life. Temper had experienced many failures, failed trial versions and errors during software development. Be patient and try again; perhaps that final attempt will bring success.
Unfortunately, many people give up at the first small difficulty: “Success may not come to you right now, but the lessons learned from past failures are truly valuable and will contribute greatly to your future success.”
3. Clearly define your goals
You also need to identify what you want and pursue it to the end.
These days, what is called a short attention span is very common among young people. They cannot sit still and focus on one thing. According to Temper, this is not good at all; avoid anything that disrupts your concentration while working.
“You cannot imagine the power of concentration. Truly great things will emerge from your serious, focused work.”
4. Establish a strong network of relationships
What makes a good network? According to Temper, it must include all the following: inspiration, motivation, and a willingness to lift one another up.
Temper's parents owned a small café and were very happy with their business, but their ambitious son wanted to reach for bigger dreams. Although the 2 parents could not support him financially, they were a tremendous source of emotional encouragement.
Without parental backing, Temper still succeeded with the investment through skillful capital rotation. Today’s success also owes much to tremendous parental support.
“If everyone around you is negative and does not believe in success, they will only drain your motivation,” Temper said. “Connect with the positive energy of the people around you so that you can act more positively and stay focused.”
5. Do not rest on your laurels
Always remember that you still have a long road ahead to travel.
The figure I am about to share could excite any potential investor: Temper is aiming to grow his business 10-fold every year. Would we have seen Temper's thriving business earning USD 30,000 today if he had settled for his original goal of making USD 100 a month to pay for gaming?
Temper realized he could earn 1.000 USD if he changed a few things. After successfully reaching his goal of 10.000 USD per month, 100.000 USD is now the figure he is aiming for.
“Many people I know become very happy after achieving an immediate goal and forget that they must keep striving. Do not remain satisfied for too long; you can still achieve even greater dreams,” Temper said.
