Your evenings, when you have some free time each day, are precious and worth cherishing. What do you usually do then? Read? Spend time with your children? Or pursue your passions and interests?
According to Darren Hardy in his book, making good use of your evenings and early mornings will help secure a wealthy future — The Compound Effect. Your evening leisure activities also reveal much about your lifestyle and concerns. Use that time meaningfully and you can take yourself to a new level.
In reality, however, evenings at home often involve only television, games, or going to bed early. You know study materials, educational videos, and home-learning courses could transform your life, but you are too tired, as most of us feel. Stop hesitating and plan worthwhile evenings starting today! In just the next 30 days, your life will surely change.
The 60/30 rule.
Over the next 30 days, set aside 60 minutes of free time each day to change your way of life. Your only task is to devote some time, even a little, to focusing on a project or plan you have been nurturing. No distractions, no excuses to compromise halfway: 60 minutes a day for 30 consecutive days. If your schedule does not allow it, just 30 minutes daily will do. After 30 days, you will surely be surprised by what has changed.
You are your own greatest investment
“The most important investment you can make is in yourself. Not many people have the drive to propel themselves toward great achievements in life. Yet everyone has potential beyond their own imagination… The greatest asset anyone truly owns is themselves. You can become far greater,” said American billionaire Warren Buffett.
Investing in yourself is the best investment you can make. Create a better version of yourself. No laziness, complacency, self-compromise or double standards. Improving yourself is not about what you ‘need’ to learn, but what you ‘want’ to become.
Read more books, but find your own standards
‘The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions.’ – Ralph Waldo Emerson. A reading habit can change your perceptions, improve your view of the world, or keep exposing you to creative ideas in the most unexpected circumstances. Whatever you want to achieve in life, knowledge is always the key. Reading can give you a good start if you want to begin gradually and discover what work is meaningful to you.
You will receive new information every day while continually exchanging and sharing knowledge with those around you. However, Richard Steele once said, “Reading is exercise for the mind.” It is only exercise, so do not become too absorbed in ideas from books; not everything written in them suits you. Taking action is what brings the most real and lasting knowledge.
Spend an hour each day learning about a new subject.
Anything new stimulates your brain. Different skills, ideas, cultural information, and opinions can positively affect your view of the world. Gaining a new skill and new knowledge each day is an effective way to improve yourself.
When did you last ask a question about the world? That was when you began discovering a dark corner of your mind that could be improved through exploration and further learning. Start by asking questions about everything around us. Examine everything possible. Experiment with whatever still puzzles you until you can clearly and coherently answer “yes or no.”
“If I had skipped the calligraphy course in college, MacBooks would never have had the many typefaces and fonts you use today.” — Steve Jobs.
Write Down What You Have Learned.
Besides improving your writing, blogging can help you organize your thoughts. It encourages deep thinking. As you begin sharing what you know with others, your communication skills will improve.
At the same time, blogging keeps your brain active. You will also be better able to connect the ideas and pieces of information you have gathered. Once you take responsibility for your reading habit and sharing what you know with others, you will begin to understand and process information faster. This process of gathering and spreading information will bring success slowly but surely.
