“Vietnamese banh mi is the world’s best street food,” as voted by prestigious international magazines, yet it still loses to foreign fast food on its own home turf…” Why is that? What should be done to position and celebrate Vietnamese banh mi for its true value here in Vietnam? …
This was the motivation and reason behind Bánh mì 2T. The product was successfully researched, tested and developed from the Lạp Xưởng Tươi 2T fresh sausage brand, a renowned longstanding specialty of Thủ Thừa, Long An.
With the distinctive flavors of the river region of southwestern Vietnam, the aromas and tastes of ingredients such as grilled fresh sausage and sweet-and-sour pickled water spinach—most importantly served with a sauce specially created for this bánh mì—have initially received strong support and positive feedback from discerning Saigon diners
Her bánh mì is among the most delicious I have ever eaten, thanks to a special sausage from Thủ Thừa. That sausage is what gives this bánh mì its wonderful appeal. ‘Bánh mì is a channel for developing the sausage business’—this was how Đến began her conversation with YUP!
2014: It all began with her frustration at an article about “Vietnamese people lining up to buy Mac Donald.” She shared that she thought a great deal about it and felt quite upset: “How could a foreign fast food compete like that with the quality and authentic Vietnamese flavor of Vietnamese bánh mì?” From then on, she sought an answer and nurtured the intention of building a Vietnamese bánh mì brand. She came to YUP! to turn her special bánh mì business idea into reality.
29/9/2014: The date her first bánh mì cart entered the market.
After 2 months in business, problems with the premises, sales skills, marketing, and ineffective employee management arose, leaving virtually no business results.
Pausing her business for 2 months, she began seeking the most positive solution possible. She confided: ‘Numbers have never been my source of pride, but at YUP! I learned so much about business experience, building a brand, and planning.’
1/2015: She reopened her bánh mì business, launching the first 2T-branded shop in Phu Nhuan.
Her wish for 2015: Develop the Bánh Mì 2T brand into a chain of 10–12 bánh mì carts in Ho Chi Minh City. Vision: Bring the Mekong Delta's distinctive flavor to the city. Take Vietnamese bánh mì to the world and become its ambassador.
The difficulties she anticipates include premises costs, investment in the shop and staffing expenses. Yet these seem small compared with what she can accomplish. What matters is just a little more time. All results ultimately reflect their true value
