THE YOUNG MAN COMBINING VIETLOTT LOTTERY WITH A TELEVISION GAME SHOW

Ontest is not only a television game show combined with the Vietlott lottery model, but also a channel for mobilizing social resources to invest in startups.

While studying Information Technology, Lê Văn Hiên came up with many technology ideas as a student. Believing that “choosing everything is choosing failure,” Hiên selected Ontest from his collection of ideas. He considered it the best fit for his resources and highly feasible in both domestic and international markets.

Hiên began building and developing Ontest, a platform for organizing online television competitions, in three stages. This past January, the Ontest multiple-choice examination management software officially launched. Based on the modern IRT testing standard, the application manages question banks, automatically generates tests and scores them, and allows tests to be taken on computers and mobile phones.

According to Hiên, Ontest is a tool that helps teachers organize competitions such as Ring the Golden Bell and Arena 100 right in the classroom. He has introduced Ontest to around 300 teachers from various schools. Thanks to those efforts, more people know about and are gradually becoming familiar with Ontest.

After piloting competitions in several classrooms and companies, Hiên wanted to launch an online game on television. Instead of limiting participants as some current game shows do, the app allows everyone watching to take part.

Like other television game shows, Ontest currently operates on advertising revenue. Hiên is therefore inviting businesses to invest in and sponsor the program, in return for television advertising.

Ontest once piloted online competitions at FPT.

The most distinctive feature of Hiên's project is its combination of a television game show with a business model similar to Vietlott. This is also the final step in bringing the Ontest idea to life.

“I want to develop an online game that everyone can join. Each person need only spend 10,000 VND to buy a star of hope linked to a unique code. They will have a chance to win the program’s prize,” Hiên confided.

Introducing a Vietlott-like business model into a television program will increase its prize value. The initial prize could range from 1 to 10 billion dong, depending on businesses’ investment and sponsorship for Ontest. As the program attracts more participants and player contributions increase, the prize grows.

Unlike Vietlott or traditional lotteries, Ontest sets rules for how winners use their prizes. They receive part of the prize immediately after the program ends. Its advisory board advises them on investing the remainder in startups.

“Ontest aims to help players become billionaires and invest in startups. Looking further ahead, I hope to bring the winners together and create a community of prospective investors,” Hiên emphasized.

The IT engineer found someone with many years of television experience to join the project. Ontest is seeking investors and sponsors for its television program. This is the biggest challenge Hiên and his companions must overcome.

He affirmed that prize value creates the initial appeal of a television game show. The higher the initial investment and the larger the prizes, the more participants Ontest will certainly attract.

The greatest wish of the young man born in 1989 is to make Ontest a reality. Unafraid of losing his idea, he is willing to share it with anyone sufficiently dedicated to join him in carrying out the project.

“I hope that one day soon, the Ontest model will reach the world, become a multinational television program, and serve as a project that mobilizes social resources for investment in startups,” he confided.
