BATTLES ON THE ENTREPRENEURIAL JOURNEY WITH LIMITED CAPITAL – Part 1

The battle with yourself

fighting against yourselfWhy, in giant corporations employing tens or hundreds of thousands of people, are only a few—or even just one, usually the CEO or founder—celebrated? For example, when Apple is mentioned, we remember Steve Jobs or Tim Cook; when Vingroup is mentioned, we immediately think of Mr. Phạm Nhật Vượng rather thanot anyone else? Because these are the people who made enormous, continuous contributions throughout the company's founding, construction and development. That is why they are honored and remembered as representatives of that company, corporation or organization. There are many companies, large and small, whose founders and executives were ruthlessly dismissed; a prime example is Steve Jobs, who was once fired from Apple, the company he founded. So are you ready to fight the countless bad habits within yourself and the challenges that come your way, to accept sacrifice and humiliation, and give up everyday pleasures that waste your body, mind and wealth, so you can focus on refining, training and developing yourself to become ever better and more complete, worthy of being one of the key people leading the company toward greater strength? Many people assume that successful, famous entrepreneurs such as Warren Buffett, Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates were born and grew up already talented, and simply went into business that way. Warren Buffett spends an average of about 80% of his working day just reading and thinking. Bill Gates says success is a lousy teacher: it makes smart people think they cannot fail. The truth is that everyone must continually develop and contribute to building themselves and their careers. But because most of us know these entrepreneurial role models only through articles and glamorous events, it is difficult to understand the sacrifices, effort and mental toil they put in to keep improving, exceed their current limits and achieve ever greater, more fulfilling accomplishments. One thing is certain: these shining examples of success never stop working, studying, absorbing knowledge and practicing. They truly love this work, not only for its professional substance but also for the benefits and value it brings society, the community and, of course, themselves.

Struggling with relatives and family

generation gapFamily, especially parents, who want children to succeed and become accomplished so they can feel proud, fulfilled, and honored before relatives and friends, seeing decades of difficult child-rearing bear sweet fruit and feeling fairly rewarded. They often want children to pursue supposedly noble professions such as teaching, engineering, or medicine, creating obstacles for those unsuited to them. Another somewhat unreasonable wish, ultimately rooted in love, is for children to have easy, leisurely jobs with generous pay and benefits. Unfortunately, if such jobs existed, everyone would compete for them, increasing supply and competition so that maintaining one's position would no longer be easy or leisurely. And especially when starting with limited capital, the challenges, workload, and pressure are far greater than salaried work, where you come to the office, follow instructions, go home and sleep, and return the next morning. The company handles most difficult problems while you fulfill your duties. Starting with little capital means solving those problems yourself with limited funds—problems that in another company would be handled by departments and specialists with substantial resources. To survive and grow from a startup into a stable company with steady revenue, profit, and development, you need breakthrough thinking, agility, creativity, decisive action, and rapid, continuous adaptation to the times. Naturally, time for family, parents, loved ones, partners, spouses, and children may decline in quality and quantity, at least during the difficult early period. You will surely hear complaints, worries, reproaches, and objections from people who love you deeply and whom you deeply love. Can you overcome this, arrange proper care, and satisfy everyone?
