After iPhone X, what is Apple’s future?

The iPhone X has launched, and the iPhone has completed a 10-year journey. What comes next?

After years of anticipation and speculation, Apple’s 10th-anniversary iPhone launched and made a distinctive impression. Following its launch, iPhone X generated extensive media coverage, analysts’ reviews, and Apple fans’ personal reflections.

And now, the technology world is again awaiting a new Apple product. What comes after the iPhone X? What is Apple’s future? Will ‘One more thing..’ happen again in 2018?

Many questions have been asked. Today, we have what appears to be the most accurate and convincing answer.

What Is Apple’s Future After the iPhone?

Bloomberg reported, following earlier reports, that Apple was researching and developing an entirely new device with a special operating system. The device was said to be smart glasses, accompanied by a “reality operating system,” or rOS.

Apple has achieved great success with the iPhone over the past 10 years, but has also faced many difficulties. Creating a completely groundbreaking product is not simple. Apple was heavily criticized when the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 offered few improvements, especially in design. Following the success of the iPhone X, it is uncertain whether Apple can sustain that level of breakthrough in subsequent years.

Meanwhile, Apple Watch, Apple's first hardware device launched under CEO Tim Cook, has also not been particularly successful. Revenue from iPads and Mac computers has shown no improvement and has even fallen sharply at times. Apple remains entirely dependent on the iPhone.

Creating a breakthrough device like the iPhone X is no simple task.

Apple’s present is the iPhone, but its future certainly is not. Technology is developing rapidly, and a day will come when smartphones are no longer number one, just as happened with personal computers. We cannot know which technological device will replace smartphones in the future, but an unstoppable technology trend is about to erupt.

That is augmented reality, or AR. Why AR rather than virtual reality, VR? Because AR is more practical, bringing digital displays into real life. Its applications are broader, from entertainment to learning, scientific research, design and connecting people.

Apple itself affirms that AR is the future of technology and that before long the entire technology world will focus on and revolve around augmented reality.

Apple's augmented reality glasses?

The iPhone X has some AR features, but it has not truly harnessed this technology's full power and applications. Apple needs a dedicated device, and that will be a pair of smart glasses.

Google pioneered smart glasses with Google Glass but failed. Microsoft is making a strong impression with HoloLens's breakthrough technology. Meanwhile, Facebook and HTC are investing in virtual reality headsets.

However, Apple's glasses will be unlike anything that has come before. Apple needs to create a device that suits users and remains comfortable all day. It must also be genuinely useful, capable of replacing a smartphone, and of course support augmented reality, or AR.

A new ecosystem

The most interesting part does not stop at the hardware. Apple also wants to develop its own operating system called rOS, an ecosystem of augmented reality applications with the ARKit development toolkit as its initial foundation.

Apple's hardware succeeds in part because of its appealing ecosystem and software.

We must acknowledge that the very reason to use Apple's hardware products is its ecosystem and appealing software. No matter how good a piece of hardware is, without a truly good operating system and software, it is worthless.

Therefore, we can hope that at an important Apple event in the near future, CEO Tim Cook will stand on stage and say, “Two more things…”.
