Jim Rohn's Philosophy of Life

Success is neither a miracle nor a mystery.

You know that apples are rich in fiber, vitamin C, minerals, and antioxidants. The English have a saying: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” But eating seven apples on one of the seven days of the week, instead of one each day, solves nothing.

Using a story about an apple's benefits and how to make use of them, Jim Rohn – author Philosophy of life explains the importance of basics and foundations as follows:

‘Success is the inevitable result of persistently applying fundamental principles. Success is nothing more than practicing a few simple disciplines every day, while failure is simply repeating a few errors in judgment day after day. It is the cumulative power of discipline and judgment that leads us to success or failure.’

It sounds like nothing new. Somewhere, we have heard or read many personal views, even arguments elevated into philosophies, about success and failure. In reality, however, unless someone brings up these seemingly familiar and simple things as distilled lessons, we fail to notice, attend to, think about, or apply them. We then remain stuck wondering why others can do certain things or have certain things while we cannot.

Jim Rohn was born into a farming family, dropped out of college after just one year, was broke at 25 and became a millionaire at 31. He was invited to share his success story everywhere, from high schools and universities to parties and seminars.

He acknowledged: “My understanding of life and business is the result of long exposure to a rich, abundant source of ideas from others.”

With his gift for “expressing old ideas in new ways,” Rohn became the world's most influential speaker. He mentored Mark R. Hughes, founder of Herbalife, and speaker Anthony Robbins, and profoundly influenced Brian Tracy—figures already familiar to Vietnamese readers.

Philosophy of life  is a compilation of several ideas Rohn has written and spoken about over the years. It is a “valuable” book to Mr. Dottie Walters, President of Walters International Speakers Bureau. He commented: “You will find it opens doors to accomplishments you thought you would never reach. Turn the pages; Jim has already switched on the lights for you.”

Some of Jim Rohn's messages included in Philosophy of life:

Action / Labor: The magic of seeds and soil is not created by affirmations, but only through work. Treat rest as a necessity rather than a goal. Rest only enough to restore your health. Without continuous action, life's threats will soon overwhelm its values.

Debate: Debate helps refine a good idea. We need to teach children how to debate important issues in life. Debate strengthens children's beliefs and helps them defend themselves against other ideologies they will encounter throughout life. Understanding an opposing perspective is the best way to strengthen your own.

Entrepreneurial spirit:
Profits are better than wages. Wages earn you a living; profits build you a fortune. Making a profit means reaching something and making it better than before. Entrepreneurship is hope for our future.

Personal development:
Who you become directly affects what you achieve. To attract captivating people, become captivating. To attract strong people, become strong. To attract sincere people, become sincere. Instead of searching for them, change yourself; when you change, you will attract them. After becoming a millionaire, you could give all your money away, because what matters is not the million dollars but the person you became in the process.
