To My Son! You have come of age and become a real man. One day, you will marry and have children. That means you must be a man of influence, able to lead yourself. Only then can you fully care for your family. I have not had much time by your side because I am sometimes in Russia, far from where you live. But to me, you are everything. That is why I want so much to tell you the story of my own startup journey, not in the hope that you will start a business, but in the hope that whatever work you do and wherever you go, if everything feels too difficult, this letter will serve as a compass on your path. Attempt 1 in 2005. At that time, as you know, I was 1 well-known teacher at Nguyễn Du Secondary School, but I always carried a desire to do 1 thing of my own. With foreign languages as my strength, I decided to pool a few hundred million dong with 1 friend to open a language school called “Chìa Khóa Vàng.” To this day, I vividly remember receiving 0đ back, along with billions of dong in losses for both my friend and me after 5 years of maintaining “Chìa Khóa Vàng” school You know, my child, after this experience, I realized the first important lesson that I believe you will need in the future: – I did not truly understand business or business calculations. In reality, calculation is just 1 small, basic part of the hundreds of skills a businessperson needs, especially an entrepreneur. But that does not mean we may overlook it. Such fundamentals are precisely what create 1 success. So whenever you encounter difficulty, or even failure, take 1 quiet moment to reflect: what is the most basic element of 1 problem that you have overlooked? Restore the fundamentals first. Everything else will then change accordingly!

However, through strong will and spirits, Mother quickly picked herself up and continued the adventure 2nd time in 2010. Mom learned about Mũi Né, where there are many Russians. Fortunately, her main foreign language, Russian, helped her. Once again, Mom found herself drawn to business, believing that opening a seafood restaurant there would have great potential. Mom began pooling funds and set aside a full 1 billion dong to build her own restaurant, named “Mila,” and hire staff and a manager. However, because she spent little time in Mũi Né and lacked management experience, after 3 years of operation, sensing the risks ahead, she decided to transfer the business to that manager, recovering 700 million dong after losing 300 million. And It Was Through the Failure in This 2nd Lesson That I Distilled This Life Lesson for You, My Child: – ‘Money is tied to one's very flesh and blood.’ Losing money feels like losing part of yourself. At that time, I should have maintained control of the business and not entrusted financial matters to someone else. – If you want 1 future of ‘financial freedom,’ remember just 1 thing: value money for its true worth. As long as you respect money and recognize that money itself is not bad, only the people who use it for bad purposes are, money will find you and stay with you. Determined not to give up, I, your mother, gathered my spirits and decided this time to find experienced “teachers.”

Attempt 3: After completing YUP’s Entrepreneurship course in April 2013, this time, with experience from 2 previous startups and my studies at YUP, I, your mother, boldly drew up the following guiding principles for business: – Entrepreneurship requires knowledge and experience. If we lack experience, we should find teachers. YUP helped me find such teachers. A business needs a mission, which is also the company's purpose for existing. If you ask me about this, I will proudly tell you that MyOlePlus's mission is: + Connecting Vietnamese and Russian businesses + Bringing the best to the younger generation by passing on your knowledge of education and science – Teacher Lý Trường Chiến's Tam Định theory, ‘Qualitative Definition, Quantification, and Timing,’ helped me realize many valuable things. – Start with your passions and strengths. Using this approach, I analyzed my abilities and realized that teaching was my strength. Your stepfather Oleg Levashov's strength is scientific research into human vision. Combining these 2 strengths, we decided to establish MyOlePlus Services with 4 business areas: 1) Research and transfer of scientific and educational technology. 2) Scientific and educational conferences. Event organization. 3) Trade, investment and tourism promotion. 4) Foreign language teaching. Tennis and yoga instruction. Mom really could not have gained those perspectives without going through the coaching sessions here. And Mom realized that growing older does not mean we should stop learning. Your mom is 55 and still proud to receive knowledge and experience from others. If Mom can do it, you can do even better! So whenever you feel defeated and discouraged because you lack some knowledge, ask yourself what it is you need. Find courses for it. There is always something you need out there if you are willing to look.
Mom learned that running a service business in Đà Lạt is far from easy … (image from the Internet)
Mom learned that running a service business in Đà Lạt is far from easy because this area is better suited to business activities related to agriculture and tourism. She therefore anticipated the following difficulties: – This 3rd startup attempt was no exception when it came to difficulties. I had spent little time back in Vietnam and was in Russia at the time. Russia was also experiencing an economic crisis, which affected trade promotion to some extent. But I believe the sky will clear after the rain, my child! So remember the next lesson: failure is followed by an opportunity for success, and after the rain the sky will clear. – What concerns me most is whether my service brings real value to people in Đà Lạt and Russia. Why do I mention this? Because I want you to understand that whatever you do, remember 1 thing: what value will it bring to others? So I promised myself I would not give up. Even if I do not succeed, what I want most is for you to learn how I start a business, learn, and face failure without fear so I can grow every day. In any case, your mother could still survive without working. But living in a way that benefits the community and improves oneself is what makes life meaningful, my child! Read again the lessons I have put in bold. These are truly the lessons I, your mother, have drawn from my story to share with you: – What is the fundamental factor in a problem? – Money is tied to one's very flesh and blood. – Value money and clearly understand its good and bad aspects. – Seek out courses for personal development. – After the rain, the sky will clear. – What value will what I do bring to others? – Find teachers for yourself. Everyone needs this to improve their abilities. And be grateful to those who teach you! ‘This is a true story from YUP! The mother in the story is Nguyễn Thị Tuấn Mỹ, a beautiful, lovely woman with 55 years of life experience and tremendous enthusiasm and passion. When YUP spoke with her, a sense of warmth surrounded us. As she told her story with such passion, I felt my own determination to pursue my ideals grow stronger and reminded myself to work even harder. She came to YUP seeking support from teachers, and YUP is fortunate to accompany her. Her project is currently being implemented, and its teaching programs are largely free. She needs more enthusiastic, passionate contributors who share her mission.
