When I first met her on a lively morning welcoming Christmas and the approaching New Year, I found her different from what I had always imagined. Neither boisterous nor overly animated, she radiated an indescribable brightness: a warm, gentle person with ambitions and an immensely strong inner force.
She shared that fate had not smiled on her. A country girl named after a beautiful flower, she had ‘congenital weakness of the arm and leg muscles,’ an illness that even made the doctor exclaim that ‘her illness made him feel as though he had never practiced medicine.’ The muscles in her arms and legs have gradually weakened over time. Previously, although weak, she could still walk; now, she has been using a wheelchair for 5 years. It seemed fate had closed the door on her dreams and aspirations, yet she remained defiant, and faith unexpectedly appeared, illuminating her love of life. Those dreams and determination nourished her and her soul.
