STUDENT TESTIMONIALS: X-START UP CEO ENTREPRENEUR, HO CHI MINH CITY, 08/2017

The course took place over 3 days, 25,26,27/8/2017, in Ho Chi Minh City.

Students taking the course gained many different kinds of value. One student shared with YUP:

“I have only been part of the Yuppies Community for two days. I am delighted to join a community of highly ambitious and positive people. I am happy that, in this community, I always have like-minded people beside me and that we help one another.

Previously, I felt my life had no specific goals.” Although I participated in many social activities and achieved good academic results, I suddenly realized I was trying to move forward without seeing a destination. At the time, my only plan was to graduate, find a stable job, and think about the rest later…

Although I always wanted major change, I had a habit of procrastinating and using lack of time as an excuse. I also gradually lost faith in my homeland and no longer wanted to serve it. I was one of those abandoning the “sinking ship.”

Honestly, I had not researched Teacher Tuấn at first. I knew about him only through my mother, Ms. Hải. I wanted to attend and see for myself because my mother said he was very capable. That made me very curious and eager to learn more about him.

When I met you, teacher, I suddenly realized so many things I had not understood before, or had thought I understood, and I felt as though I could see “light” ahead.

I truly feel exhilarated, as though someone is lighting my path through darkness. I genuinely admire you, Teacher: at such a young age, you have achieved what many people cannot, and you have an enormous heart.

1. The Power of Focus

Previously, I always wanted to set many goals at once. Sometimes I wanted excellent grades, to play drums, guitar, and piano, join a band, participate in course research, and compete in kickboxing…

Setting too many goals at once truly left me overwhelmed and discouraged. Wanting to do too many things simultaneously meant I did everything halfway.

In Canada, I took on too many things at once. I joined AIESEC, SSA, Kwest Kickboxing and other organizations while trying to do well academically. But I realized I was not giving my all to anything because I wanted to do everything.

I realized that the power of focus applies to every area of life, including business. It determines and greatly influences the success of any business. I realized I need to focus on my priority goal before I can achieve others.

2. Habit is stronger than passion

In other words, build habits instead of searching for passion. As I mentioned above, because I was pursuing too many goals at once, I was always caught in the cycle of ‘finding my passion.’ But the more I searched, the more confused I became. I realized that building habits was the key. I am building a habit of reading every day because I know deep knowledge is very important in STARTUPS and in any field.

3. Service

To be honest, “service to others” is a very new concept to me, but it is the greatest value I gained from the course.

Previously, my only thought was that after finishing my studies, I would leave Vietnam for good. But Teacher Tuấn made me realize I was among the many trying to flee this “sinking ship,” helping it sink even deeper. To truly “serve” my homeland effectively, I will pursue further study and technological experience abroad. When successful enough, I will invest the science and technology I have learned back into my country to help “repair” the ship. To me, the effective way to repair it is to reinvest in the country. That ship is my homeland and roots, which I cannot forget. If everyone wanted to “repair” this ship, VIETNAM WOULD SOON BE A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE!!! “As long as my heart beats, I will keep contributing.”

Another major lesson I learned about ‘service’ is that in every social relationship, I must identify my own value and what value I can bring to others.

I can see the spirit of “service” very clearly in Teacher Tuấn. I see an entrepreneur with great heart and a profound purpose in life. Through his teaching, I can clearly understand the meaning of “service” in every experience and every action of the Ambassador team and Teacher Tuấn.
