[You Up tour] Success Before 30 – Hanoi University of Industry

The “Success Before 30” seminar – Making entrepreneurship more than a distant dream!

The first stage of the startup journey

Starting in technology, the field he studied at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Tạ Minh Tuấn began his entrepreneurial career as a student with an Internet Marketing business. In terms of revenue, the business he co-founded could be considered successful, with major clients such as P&G, Unilever and Samsung…, and annual revenue of tens of billions. Yet for Tạ Minh Tuấn, something seemed missing, gradually wearing down his aspirations. No longer burning with passion, he realized he was not truly giving his all to this first brainchild. Then his family experienced a major upheaval when he learned that his beloved father had cancer.

What motivates entrepreneurship?

A friend's mother once had this disease. The image of her in her final days in hospital still pierces my heart whenever I think about it. Cancer is not unfamiliar in Vietnam, where the environment and food are poisoned by the desire to maximize profits at any cost. Should one succumb to pain or rise again after adversity? Tạ Minh Tuấn showed his mettle by moving into healthcare and founding HELP International in response to his passion. This pivotal choice drove him to work tirelessly, step by step, and he successfully made Help International a pioneering, leading organization in building the “Personal Doctor – Healthcare at Home” model in Vietnam.

Ready for challenges

At 23, when most students were preparing to graduate and find jobs, he was nominated to lead Master Chapter of Business Network International in Vietnam (BNI, currently the world’s largest business networking organization), just as the chapter risked disbanding with only 7 members. Master Chapter recovered to more than 40 members, reflecting his noteworthy efforts in accepting the challenge. He gently passed on this lesson to young people: not 50%, not 99%—always show up and take 100% responsibility. Within danger lies opportunity; difficulties and challenges always bring opportunities. Give young people those opportunities to contribute, give, change and mature.

A calling to a career inspiring others

Having succeeded at a very young age and become well known among young people, he is always ready to share his experiences with those following him. Then, as though by fate, with teaching in his blood from a family of educators, YUP Academy was born and became a pioneering, reputable organization in entrepreneurship training & support in Vietnam.

For Tạ Minh Tuấn, it is simply about wanting to contribute and fulfilling a mission of giving back, because he believes all social change must begin with education and self-education. With the gap between young people worldwide and in Vietnam still so large, training institutions face considerable challenges alongside the need for self-education.

Contributing talent and inspiring people to live

Needing to go straight to the airport after the program, Tạ Minh Tuấn could spend only one hour with Hanoi University of Industry students. His insights truly won over everyone in the auditorium that day. More than 400 hearts beat with aspiration, and more than 800 eyes lit up with the youthful fire of contribution alongside him. He achieved what he always reminds himself: “Whoever can make every moment of life bring value to others extends their life ‘infinitely.’”

School and university students enthusiastically participate before speaker Tạ Minh Tuấn’s talk

Recognized by the renowned Forbes magazine as a young person with outstanding success and influence in Asia's ‘30 under 30’ list in 2016, and having founded and led a total of 7 organizations across different fields, Tạ Minh Tuấn considers these only initial successes. On the long road ahead, he truly lives with the responsibility of a patriotic young Vietnamese person who longs for Vietnamese people to stand proudly alongside friends worldwide. He passed that aspiration to over 400 students. Could it become the initial push for their career journeys? The answer depends action of yours, today!

P.S.: Leave your footprints on the path success before 30, my friend!
