Part 1: Entrepreneurial Portraits
Part 2: Essential Skills for Successful Entrepreneurship
Part 3: WHAT I CONSIDERED WHEN STARTING A BUSINESS
From Dylan's perspective, if only I had known earlier or lived with the discipline reflected in the questions below, I might have achieved startup success sooner and more easily:
- Experience: Have I ever done this work before?
- This ensures you at least have a reasonably adequate knowledge foundation (do not seek perfection, but do not begin anything without understanding either)
Learn to stand on the shoulders of giants and absorb their experience
- “If you want to taste the sweetness of success, you must first understand its bitterness.” See whether you are ready face difficulties and challengesduring the entrepreneurial journey?
- More than once, I have said that starting a business is like swimming across a river, haven't I?
==> Advice: Look for opportunities to meet successful people in the field you want to enter and ask them about the difficulties
- Skills: I think the most important part here is the group of skills for working with people. I have drawn this conclusion for myself: “Every organizational problem comes from people.”
- The most important habit: The habit of taking 100% responsibility for everything that happens in your life. Start developing it now if you intend to build 1 business of your own in the future.
- Building endurance & simplifying life:
- “Form is temporary; class is permanent” — Sir Alex Ferguson. Building a business is not a temporary undertaking.
- Endurance in both body and will is necessary. Are you ready?
- Simplify and Optimize Your Life to Hold Out Until Your Business’s Cash Flow Is Stable.
- Final question: “Have you prepared those closest to you mentally for this?”
- You may not believe it yet! But starting a business is not something in which you can ‘enjoy or suffer alone’ and ‘involve no one else.’
- Although you bear the pressure directly, your loved ones are the quiet heroes, trying to create a comfortable space for a “somewhat irritable version” of you and quietly caring for your health. Recognize their contributions and prepare these “soldiers” mentally!
- The Final Issue: “Who is your team?”
==>Learn techniques for bringing talent together
If most answers are “Yes”, you can start taking action. Any missing elements or skills can quickly be developed, or learned through action and experience. “Entrepreneurship is continual movement and change to find a success formula and the ability to scale it. No model is perfect from the outset!”
If most answers are “No”, you should temporarily postpone starting a business. Instead, invest time, effort, and money in meeting missing conditions and improving inadequate skills. You may also need to reconsider whether your chosen idea suits you.
The suggested method for doing this:
- Find someone successful in that field and talk to them to ask whether you are a good fit yet.
- Note: In this age, when information is easy to find but knowledge is scarce and “false teachers preach,” remain alert to recognize and find genuine teachers. They should have successes widely recognized through legitimate channels, rather than being “self-appointed” CEOs.
